The eagle-i Consortium is directed by Principal Investigator Lee M. Nadler, MD, Harvard Medical School Dean for Clinical and Translational Research. Nine institutions of different sizes, geographical location, and culture are building and implementing a federated informatics network that will allow investigators to discover biomedical research resources that are presently invisible. Postdoctoral research associates at each site, known as Resource Navigators, are collecting and inventorying the biomedical laboratory resources using the ontologies and tools being designed by the curation team. The Scientific Data Curator serves on the Data Curation Team. Under the supervision of the Lead Data Curator, s/he will work with a team comprised of six curators at Harvard University and Oregon Health & Science University, as well as the Harvard-based software development team and the Resource Navigators. The duties of this position include: developing the eagle-i ontology, which is being built in OWL and utilizes imports from existing biomedical ontologies and de novo ontology building; ontological annotation of biomedical resource metadata; participation in iterative design of tools required for annotation of biomedical resources; participation in specific working groups to define requirements, determine eagle-i content, and implement the data model; additional duties may include load (ETL) processes, data reconciliation, quality assurance (QA), and OWL ontology software integration. Required: MS in a biological or biomedical science, and at least 3 years experience in developing biomedical ontologies. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; broad knowledge of medical/scientific terminology; technical capabilities including excellent computer skills with the ability to perform detailed work requiring sustained attention in a proficient manner. Preferred: Any of the following would be advantageous: PhD in a biological or biomedical science; Wet-lab research experience; biomedical ontology development experience; semantic web engineering including RDF and/or OWL familiarity; biomedical terminology familiarity; experience annotating large data sets; ETL processes; or biomedical project content management.
